SPECIAL NOTE: Councilmember-elect Piotr (Peter) Gajewski will not be attending the inauguration ceremony due to a prior, work-related commitment. Gajewski, who leads the National Philharmonic in residence at Strathmore and is a sought-after conductor, will be in Katowice, Poland, serving on the jury of the eighth annual Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors, which ends on November 25. He then will serve as a guest conductor at the Silesian Philharmonic on November 30. Gajewski, 48, will return to the area on December 3.
ROCKVILLE, Md., November 13, 2007 — The City of Rockville will inaugurate its 61st Mayor and Council on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park. The public is invited to the ceremonies and the reception that follows in the theatre lobby. The inauguration will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Brenda Milette, Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, will swear in Mayor-elect Susan R. Hoffmann, 63, for her first term as Mayor. Previously, Hoffmann served three terms on the City Council. The mayor and all four Councilmembers were elected on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The mayor will then administer the oath of office to the three members of the City Council: John B. Britton, 53, (elected to his first term); Phyllis Marcuccio, 74, (elected to her second term); and Anne Mahoney Robbins, 65, (elected to her fifth term). Mayor-elect Hoffmann will deliver remarks following the swearing-in ceremonies.
The inauguration will be broadcast live on The Rockville Channel (cable channel 11) and rebroadcast numerous times during the ensuing weeks.
